A woman has posted a chilling recount of the moment she was almost killed while on holiday at a popular tourist resort.

Tammy Lawrence-Daley, from the US state of Delaware, took a trip to the Dominican Republic in January with her husband and best friends.

They checked into the resort and had an early night before spending the next day at the beach. They met up with friends later that night as they relaxed into the holiday.

But the trip took a nightmare turn when Ms Lawrence-Daley went to order room service after getting home.

“I received a ‘busy’ message so I tried again. At that time I got a message that they were no longer serving,” she wrote in a Facebook post.

“I told my husband I was going to run downstairs to the lounge in our building for a snack and I’d be back in five minutes.

“I ended up bypassing the lounge in our building, and opted to go to the lounge in the next building, which was on the beach.”

This almost ended up being a fatal decision for Ms Lawrence-Daley. As she moved to the next building she noticed it was “eerily quiet”.

“I took about 10 or so steps just swinging my wristlet back and fourth, not a care in the world. That’s when I heard it,” she said.

“Heavy footsteps .... one, two, three, four, then they sped up, and then before I could react I was plowed into from behind and immediately immobilised.”

‘I fought with everything I had in that moment’

Ms Lawrence-Daley said she felt arms wrap around her and pull her towards an unlocked maintenance room.

“I’m not going to go into the gory details of everything, however, please know that I fought with everything I had in that moment,” she wrote.

The woman was the victim of a savage attack that lasted eight hours. She was strangled multiple times until her unconscious body was dragged down concrete stairs into a waste area.

“I was kicked in the head, I was beaten with a club. And then strangled again for the kill; at which time he disposed of my body into an area I refer to as the ‘hole’,” she said.

“I was unconscious multiple times during this savage attack, so I have no idea what else was done to me during that time. Somehow I survived.”

‘The man thought he killed me, but he failed’

After the attack Ms Lawrence-Daley spent five days in hospital and had surgery.

She wrote in her post she was still dealing with nerve damage and medical expenses.

She was staying at the Majestic Elegance resort in the Dominican Republic and claims she was attacked by a man wearing a uniform with the resort logo.

However the resort has not claimed responsibility as Ms Lawrence-Daley cannot identify her attacker.

“Police did find evidence of the blood-smeared mop handle and a maintenance hat in the area I was found, but this means nothing in these countries,” she said.

“There are no cameras, no bright lighting, etc.

“My husband and friends went to the front desk at least three times throughout the night before security even agreed to look for me.”

The woman claims resort security thought she just went missing because she was drunk.

“The man thought he killed me, but he failed. He is still out there, a predator, waiting for his next victim. Only the next woman may not be so fortunate,” she said.

“Please, please do not walk alone.”

Ms Lawrence-Daley said the attacks were happening too frequently and offenders were getting away with it.

“Majestic Elegance didn’t offer to reimburse us for our vacation, let alone my current medical bills,” she said.

“When you are in unfamiliar places, or even in familiar places, please remember ... be smart, be safe.”

A US State Department spokesman told the New York Post the agency was aware of the incident.

“The welfare and safety of US citizens abroad is one of the highest priorities of the Department of State,” the agency said.
