Woman Bitten By Monkey On 'Pirates' Set

A woman has been taken to hospital after she was bitten by a monkey at the Movie World theme park in Australia.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said the 54-year-old woman was taken to Southport's Allamanda Private Hospital in a stable condition.

Pictures broadcast by Channel Nine showed her being treated by ambulance staff at the park before she was taken to hospital.

It is thought the woman was working on the new Pirates Of The Caribbean film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, which is being filmed at the park.

The series of films features a cursed capuchin monkey called Jack which is owned by the character Captain Hector Barbossa and named after his arch enemy Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp.

It is not known if 'Jack' was responsible for the attack.

Pirates Of The Caribbean is a Disney franchise of films, spin-off novels, theme park rides and video games that has grossed around $3.73bn (£2.37bn) worldwide.

But filming the latest instalment has not been without controversy.

In May, Depp fell foul of Australian authorities after failing to notify officials he brought his pet dogs Pistol and Boo into the country.

The dogs eventually left Australia after Depp was warned the breach of quarantine law could result in a prison sentence or a fine of AU$340,000 (£172,000).

In March police arrested a 22-year-old man dressed as a pirate who was accused of breaching security and threatening a guard on the film set in Helensvale, Queensland.
