Woman Burned In Doorstep Cleaning Fluid Attack

Six people have been arrested after a woman suffered serious burns when she had a caustic liquid thrown in her face while answering the door.

The 19-year-old suffered burns to the side of her face and neck when a man doused her with what is believed to be high-strength cleaning fluid at 3pm on Tuesday.

The unnamed victim does not live at the terraced house in Tividale, near Tipton, West Midlands, and had been visiting a friend, neighbours said.

A man in his 60s who was standing next to her when she opened the front door suffered minor burns.

Police have covered the front of the property with a blue tarpaulin as they investigate the scene for forensic evidence.

They are studying CCTV footage apparently showing the attacker running from the house along with three other men.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said four men and two women are being questioned.

Three were arrested on suspicion of wounding, one on suspicion of conspiracy to wound, and two others on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Detective Inspector Jim Munro said: "We believe this was a targeted attack.

"It's not clear what the substance is yet, but initial thoughts are that it's some kind of high-strength detergent."
