A woman was caught on camera tossing a bag of puppies into a dumpster in Coachella, California, on April 18, officials said.
This surveillance footage, released by the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, shows a woman exiting her Jeep, peering into the dumpsters behind a storefront and discarding a trash bag. Seven puppies, who were approximately three days old, were in the bag, and they were discovered by a member of the public, according to the Department of Animal Services.
“A passerby, named John, rummaged through the trash and noticed the bag and brought it into the Napa store,” Animal Services said. “If not for the Good Samaritan’s actions, the puppies may not have survived much longer. The mid-day temperatures in Coachella on Thursday were in the mid-90s range.”
The puppies were accepted by MeoowzResQ, a California rescue and fostering organization, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office was notified. Credit: Riverside County Animal Services via Storyful
