A woman has been charged with five counts of attempted murder over a stabbing spree at a boarding house for babies in New York.

Three newborns and two adults were injured when a woman went on a rampage inside the accommodations for so-called 'tourist babies' in Queens.

The woman allegedly started stabbing babies and staff at around 3.40am yesterday morning.

She is said to have attacked a 63-year-old colleague and a 31-year-old man and then four infants, a 3-day-old, a 2-week-old, a 3-week-old and a 1-month-old.

Police found the alleged attacker bleeding and unconscious at the scene after apparently trying to take her own life.

Yu Fen Wang, 52, has been charged with five counts of attempted murder.

She is undergoing treatment and a psychiatric evaluation at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
