A woman who reportedly complained to her butcher that her Christmas was ruined after they sold her a pink turkey was left red-faced when she realised she’d bought a gammon joint instead.

The woman, who was only referred to as Zoe in Facebook messages seen by the Daily Star, messaged her butcher saying she was “very disappointed” after cooking what she thought was a 12lb turkey for it to still be pink after hours in the oven.

She said she didn’t want to risk eating the meat as it was “still very, very pink inside” and so had her festive feast “two hours later with no meat”.

Zoe messaged the butcher - NL Woodcock Butchers in Oldham, Greater Manchester - saying eventually she tried the meat and had a “nibble on the outside of the now very dried out meat.” In the messages, she said it was then that she realised it was gammon all along - suggesting the butcher had sold her the wrong joint.

In response to her complaint, the butcher said she had ordered “hamper 6” which came with gammon and no turkey.

Realising her mistake, Zoe, whose entire household was also isolating due to Covid, apologised - and asked if she could buy some turkey.

The butcher, called Neil, saw the funny side of the story - and offered to drop off a turkey breast for free because it was the “best laugh he’s had this year”.

But he did also share the exchange on Facebook. “Looking after our customers. Sorry Zoe but we thought it was funny.”
