Woman dead and man arrested following 'disturbance' at West Lothian home

A man has been arrested and charged after a woman died following a disturbance at a home in West Lothian.

A trauma team and ambulance were called to the property on Cunnighar Road in Broxburn on Sunday evening at around 7.55pm.

A 42-year-old woman was found injured and rushed to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh by ambulance where she later died.

Police arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with her death and he has now been charged. A cordon has been erected by police as they continue to probe the death.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "A 46-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a woman in Broxburn.

"Officers were called to a report of a disturbance on Cunnighar Road around 7.55pm on Sunday, 9 June, 2024."

They added: "Emergency services attended and the 42-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where she later died.

"The 46-year-old man is due to appear at Livingston Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 11 June."

Detective Chief Inspector Craig Higgins said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died and we’ll do all we can to support them at this very difficult time.

“I’d like to thank the local community for their help and patience while enquiries are carried out. There will be a continued police presence in the area but I want to reassure everyone, this is an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public. However, anyone who does have concerns can speak to officers.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 8.02pm on Sunday to attend an incident on Cunnighar Road in Broxburn. We dispatched an ambulance, our trauma team and special operations team (SORT) to the scene, with our first resource arriving at 8.10pm. We transported one patient to New Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
