A woman died at the scene of a car crash in Caterham in the early hours of this morning (June 9). Two others were injured, one in a life-threatening condition.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision, which happened at the Buxton Lane, Ninehams Road and Salmons Lane West roundabout at around 3am.

In an appeal for witnesses, Surrey Police said: "One passenger, a 34-year-old woman, sadly died at the scene. Two other passengers, a man and a woman in their 30s, were injured and taken to hospital, one (the woman) in a life-threatening condition.

"Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported." Surrey Police said a "fourth occupant" left the scene.

It said he was white, aged between 30-40, and of stocky build. He was seen wearing a white t-shirt and carrying a man-bag.

There are road closures in place on the roundabout so emergency services can carry out an investigation. Surrey Police told drivers to "avoid the area" as the closures would be in place for several hours.

A spokesperson said: "The roads will be reopened as soon as possible. If you were in the area at around 3am and might have witnessed the incident or have CCTV, dashcam or helmet cam footage please get in touch."

"If you have any information that may assist our investigation, please contact us quoting PR/0084 of today's date (9 June) via Facebook Messenger."
