Leicestershire Police said officers were called to the car park after the woman suffered injuries in an 'incident', LeicestershireLive reports. The force said: "East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended.

"She was taken to hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner. Identification is a matter for the coroner."

A spokesperson for Highcross Leicester said the car park would remain shut until further notice. They said: "Leicestershire emergency services were called to the centre this morning in response to an incident.

"As a result, our multi-storey car park is closed until further notice. In the meantime, the centre itself remains open and shoppers can still park in our rooftop car park, accessed via Vaughan Way. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and we hope to update shoppers once the car park has reopened."

A white tent was placed inside the car park foyer on the ground floor, as well as blue screens. No further information about how the woman suffered her injuries have been released.
