Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service has confirmed that a woman has died following a house fire in the Gedling village of Burton Joyce. Firefighters from three stations attended the fire after the affected property's neighbour called just after 3.30pm on Saturday (July 6).

The neighbour had seen smoke issuing from the property on Bridle Road. In a statement issued on Sunday (July 7), Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service confirmed that a woman had died and that a second casualty remains in a critical condition after being taken to hospital by air ambulance.

A joint investigation involving Nottinghamshire Police has now been completed and the cause of fire has been deemed as accidental. Group Manager, Tom Archer, said: "On behalf of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, I would like to send my sincere condolences to the friends and family of the individuals involved in this incident.

"We will be in the area in the coming week to offer support to local residents, however in the meantime we want to remind everyone that there is fire safety information available on our website. Thank you to those across all the responding blue light services who dealt with this terrible and unfortunate incident with us at the scene."
