A woman has died after a crash. Emergency services were called to the junction of Menlove Avenue and Beaconsfield Road next to Calderstones Park, at around 12.40pm on Saturday, September 21.

Merseyside Police previously confirmed a Peugeot had crashed with traffic lights at the junction. Officers said the Peugeot had been involved in a crash with a Ford, which then resulted in the crash with the traffic lights.

On arrival police found an 87-year-old woman, who was front seat passenger in the Peugeot, had sustained serious injuries. She was taken to hospital by ambulance but has sadly since died from her injuries.

The two drivers, both men, of the vehicles were not seriously injured and are assisting police with their enquiries. No arrests have been made. The woman’s family are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: "Our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this sad time and they are being supported by specialist officers. It is now a priority for us to get answers for them about how the collision occurred, and my team are working to establish key facts.

"This collision happened on a busy route in and out of the city. Early enquiries show there were a number of vehicles in the area at that time, and I believe it may have been witnessed by members of the public or have been captured on dash cameras. I would appeal directly to anyone who saw anything and who has yet to speak with my team to please get in touch.

"In addition, I would also ask anyone who was in the area at the time who has dashcam fitted to their vehicles to urgently review it. These devices can often capture key evidence in the moments leading up to the collision without the driver of the vehicle being aware. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist our investigation."
