Woman dies after fire rips through Colchester home

A woman has sadly passed away after a fire took place in a home in Colchester. Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called to a home in Colchester this morning (January 14) after a neighbour heard a smoke alarm going off.

The fire was reported at about 12.20am this morning, on Smallwood Road in Colchester. After arriving, crews found a fire in a bedroom in a ground floor maisonette.

Sadly, a woman has confirmed to have lost her life in the blaze. The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental, but the cause of death of the woman is not yet known.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters were called to a ground floor maisonette in Colchester during the early hours of this morning after neighbours heard a smoke alarm going off. On arrival crews found a fire in a bedroom.

"Sadly, a woman lost her life at the scene. Following an investigation, the cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental."
