A woman has died after being trapped inside a clothes donation box.

Witnesses heard the woman calling for help shortly before 2am on Tuesday in the Canadian city of Toronto.

Half of the woman’s body was found sticking out of the box by emergency crews.

Police said the woman did not have any vital signs when firefighters pulled her from the bin behind a building near Bloor Street and Dovercourt Road.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Police said her death is not suspicious and they are investigating the incident as a death by misadventure.

It is not the first time someone has died after being trapped in a clothes donation box in Canada.

Five people have died in British Columbia in the past four years in similar incidents.

Last week, the body of a 34-year-old man was discovered inside a donation bin in West Vancouver.

In the wake of his death, charities called for the bins to be removed.
