Woman dies after being hit by car on Boxing Day during police chase

A woman died on Boxing Day after she was hit by a car that was being chased by police.

The 47-year-old pedestrian was hit by a blue Vauxhall Corsa on High Street in Rishton, near Blackburn, at about 5.50pm on Boxing Day.

Lancashire Police are working to identify the driver, who failed to stop at the scene. The car was later found on nearby Cliff Street.

The IPCC, the police watchdog, has been informed and the victim’s family is being supported by specially trained officers, the force said.

Detective Inspector Warren Atkinson said: “We have now launched a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
