A woman has died after a fire in a house in St Helens. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was called to a serious house fire in Sutton, at around 4.41pm on Sunday, November 10.

On arrival, firefighters found a mid-terraced house with a fire in the ground floor front room. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property under rapid deployment with one hose reel jet, rescuing the resident of the house who was then taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Mersey Fire confirmed the woman sadly died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire. An investigation found the suspected cause of the fire to be accidental ignition due to the unsafe disposal of smokers’ materials.
