A 49-year-old woman was unable to be resuscitated after being found slumped in the doorway of a bank in Torquay by passersby on a Friday night in the town. Suzanne Birtwistle, who was born in Blackburn and was single and of no fixed abode, died outside NatWest Bank on Union Street on May 3, at 10.35pm.

An inquest recently opened into her death at Exeter Coroner's Court. The short hearing heard that the cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

Alison Longhorn, area coroner for Exeter and Greater Devon, said: "The circumstances of the death are that Suzanne was found slumped over in the doorway by members of the public. Ambulance and police were called while the public performed CPR. On arrival of the ambulance, paramedics took over and despite their interventions, Suzanne sadly passed away.
