Woman escapes blaze at Coventry chip shop as cause revealed

A woman was lucky to have escaped injury after a large blaze took hold at a chip shop in Coventry. It happened at Village Fish Bar in Keresley.

Firefighters from Coleshill and Nuneaton responded to 999 calls reporting a large fire on Bennetts Road North at around 4.15pm on Tuesday (September 10). A 4x4 Brigade Response Vehicle from Coventry Fire Station was also sent to the scene, West Midlands Fire Service said.

Crews found that a large blaze had taken hold, and was sparked by a deep fat fryer, West Midlands Fire Service said. Nobody was believed to have been injured.

Firefighters used a CO2 extinguisher to tackle the blaze and spent around an hour at the scene, West Midlands Fire Service said. Crews isolated the electricity and gas supplies for 'safety purposes.'

In a statement issued today (September 12), West Midlands Fire Service said: “We were called at 4.16pm on Tuesday (September 10) to reports of a fire at Village Fish Bar in Keresley. Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service mobilised crews from Coleshill and Nuneaton.

West Midlands Fire Service mobilised a fire engine and a 4x4 Brigade Response Vehicle from Coventry Fire Station. It was a fire involving a deep fat fryer, which was put out using a CO2 extinguisher. Electrics were isolated by fire crews for safety purposes and fire safety advice was given.”
