Woman who fell asleep on train to Edinburgh wakes to find naked man next to her
Police have launched an appeal for help from the general public after a woman awoke to find a naked man sitting beside her on a train. Reports say the woman was travelling from Polmont, Falkirk, to Edinburgh Waverley station in Scotland at around 7:21am on the morning of 20 April (last Thursday). When she came to shortly afterwards, a nude man was sat beside her.
British Transport Police have said it is treating the incident as a case of "public indecency" and said the man later put jogging bottoms and a T-shirt on before getting off the train at Edinburgh Waverley.
The suspect is described as being white, of medium/slim build, between the ages of 65 to 70 and around 5ft 6 inches tall. It's reported that he has short grey hair and a stubbly beard.
Research carried out in 2021 found that the number of sexual harassment and sexual offences occurring on public transport increased by 63% compared to pre-pandemic figures. Cuts to station staff and the British Transport Police were described as being "counter-productive" in the face of keeping women and girls safe whilst travelling on trains, tubes, trams or buses.
