Woman goes viral for singing 'Shallow' in subway station

A video of a woman singing Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s song Shallow as part of a social media challenge has gone viral.

The clip, which was taken by British comedian Kevin Freshwater and shared to Facebook, was taken during his segment “Finish the Lyrics,” where he challenges strangers to sing the next lyrics of popular songs.

However, Freshwater was left shocked when a woman walking past him in the subway sang the lyrics to Shallow perfectly after he challenged her.

“Finish the lyrics!” Freshwater can be heard telling the woman, singing the beginning of the hit song from A Star Is Born himself, before placing the mic in front of her.

As the woman begins, Freshwater exclaims: “Wow!” before prompting her to “keep going”.

“Wow you’re really good, keep going,” he encourages her, at which point the woman, later identified as Charlotte Awbery, breaks into song.

The clip, which has since been viewed more than 13m times on Facebook has prompted an outpouring of praise for Awbery.

One tweet sharing the video with the caption: “This guy challenged strangers to ‘finish the lyrics’ and this woman passing by started belting out Shallow like she was performing at the Oscars, literally flawless,” has been viewed more than 23.2m times.

“Lady Gaga who? This literally gave me chills,” one person wrote.

Another tweeted: “She’s incredible! Such an amazing voice, I was speechless.”

Since the clip has gone viral, Awbery, who describes herself as a singer/songwriter on Instagram, where she shares covers of famous songs, has gained thousands of followers, with a current follower count of 171,000.
