Woman 'grabbed' by man in Crewe in attempted robbery as he tried to take handbag

A woman was 'grabbed' by a 'stocky man' in Crewe as he attempted to steal her handbag. The attempted robbery incident happened around 8.50pm on Thursday (May 23).

Officers investigating the incident are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch with them.

At 9pm police were made aware of reports of an attempted robbery near the junction with Bright Street and Richard Moon Street.

The incident occurred at around 8.50pm when the 54-year-old victim was approached by an unknown man. She reported he had grabbed her and asked for her handbag.

The victim managed to break free from the man and the suspect fled the scene in the direction of Goddard Street.

The suspect has been described as Asian, 6ft tall, of a stocky build, was wearing dark trousers and a light-coloured bobble hat, and spoke with a foreign accent.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to get in touch with them.

Detective Sergeant Robert Bushell said: “We are currently conducting enquiries and as part of this, we would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed what happened.

“The same goes for anyone who has any dashcam or CCTV footage of the reported incident, or any other information which may aid our investigation.
