Woman hears 'shouting' during Clapham group knife fight as police 'ban' residents from balconies
A woman has described hearing people ‘shouting’ during a group knife fight in Clapham, with police ‘banning’ residents from their balconies. A man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene, following the fight on Wandsworth Road (SW8), police have confirmed.
The resident, whose flat faces out onto the scene of the incident, said: "I could hear three people having a fight. Our flat faces out on to where it happened, I could just hear shouting.
"None of us are able to go out on the balcony as we're being told to go back inside.”

Another resident told MyLondon: “It’s a big city everywhere it is the same, London or other cities. But this street is usually okay, people know each other - it’s not that kind of a massive place.”
The fatal stabbing took place this morning (Sunday, September 29), with police called to the incident just after 4am on Wandsworth Road in Clapham. Police, paramedics and a London Air Ambulance all attended.
One man was pronounced dead at the scene, while another two other victims have been rushed to hospital. Police say one of the victim’s injuries were deemed to be non life-threatening, while they are awaiting an update on the third victim.
A large police cordon is currently in place on Wandsworth Road, where police are carrying out investigation work. Forensics have also been spotted working at the scene.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Service said: “Police were called at about 04:05hrs on Sunday, 29 September to reports of a large group fighting with knives in Wandsworth Road, SW8.
“Officers, London Ambulance Service and the London’s Air Ambulance attended. Three people were found at the scene suffering with stab wound injuries. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, a man in his 20s [Victim 1], was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are working to inform his next of kin.
“Two other victims - both also aged in their 20s - have been taken to hospital for treatment. One [Victim 2] was treated for injuries that were not deemed to be life threatening and we await for an update on the other victim’s condition [Victim 3].
“A crime scene has been established and road closures are in place.At this early stage, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
