Woman Helps Free Distressed Seagull Caught on Fishing Hook

A seagull that had become entangled with a fishing hook was set free by a woman walking along Blairgowrie Pier in Victoria, Australia, after she noticed a fisherman struggling to release the injured animal.

In footage shared by Mornington Peninsula resident Jules Casey, she stops and asked the fisherman if he needed help untangling the distraught bird.

Sharing the footage to Instagram Casey wrote that the fisherman “accidentally caught a seagull when it went after his bait.”

Casey was initially concerned he would cut the line and leave the fishing hook tangled around the bird’s legs so she joined in his efforts and used her hat to settle the bird down while the fisherman removed the line and hook from its wing.

“The seagull was released unharmed,” she confirmed.
