Woman in her 30s stabbed to death in Deptford, Lewisham, sparking murder investigation

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 30s was stabbed to death in Lewisham.

Police were called shortly before 4pm on Tuesday to a property in Tanner’s Hill, Deptford, after concerns were raised for a woman’s welfare.

A woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found with stab wounds.

Paramedics and an air ambulance were also sent to the scene but despite the efforts of emergency responders, the woman was pronounced dead.

Her next of kin have been informed.

A 33-year-old man, who was known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

The Met says officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, in charge of policing for Lewisham, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has lost her life and we will continue to give them specialist support.

“I know that there will also be shock and concern within the community at this time. I want to reassure people that this was an isolated incident and that a man remains in police custody.

“There will continue to be an enhanced police presence in the area and anyone who has any concerns or information that could help the investigation should speak to officers.”
