Woman left seriously injured after mass brawl in Aldi car park involving 50 people

A woman was left seriously injured after a mass brawl in a supermarket car park.

Police were called to the brawl in an Aldi car park off Garratt Way, Manchester at 4am on Sunday where officers found nearly 50 people.

The group scattered when police arrived, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said, but a woman in her 30s was left seriously injured.

It is believed she had been hit by a car. Her injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening.

An investigation was underway on Sunday, GMP said, but no arrests had been made.

People who live in the area described how screams could be heard from the car park.

One resident who overlooks the car park said he was woken by loud noises as he tried to get to sleep.

He said: "I heard shouting and screaming. I just thought it was normal things but then the screaming didn’t stop. I saw a lot of people in the parking lot screaming at each other."

He said he heard a bang and a woman screaming.

Another resident said she also heard screaming, but didn’t think it was anything unusual as there is often people making noise in that area.

On Sunday, the Aldi store remained open to shoppers but the car park was taped off as crime scene investigators searched the scene.

In a statement, GMP said: "Police were called at 4am this morning (Sunday 15 August) to a report of a large fight involving nearly 50 people on a car park off Garratt Way, Manchester.

"On officers' arrival, the group dispersed and a woman in her 30s was being treated in an ambulance - it is believed a vehicle had collided with her and she suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
