Woman jailed for assaulting paramedics in Accrington
A woman has been jailed for assaulting paramedics.
Rebecca Stevenson of Nelson Street appeared at Preston Crown Court last Friday (September 13) where she was sentenced to 44 weeks imprisonment following a trial. The incident unfolded at around 8.30pm on May 7, when Lancashire Police received a report of an assault on an emergency worker.
Paramedics attended to Stevenson in Broadway, when potatoes and other objects were thrown at them. Emergency workers also had a can of aerosol gas sprayed at them.
26-year-old Stevenson was aggressive towards the paramedics, assaulting them both inside and outside the ambulance. Thankfully, the two emergency workers only had minor injuries as a result.
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "These assaults are not, and never will be tolerated in Lancashire and we hope that this shows others, who may think it acceptable to assault emergency workers, that we will take these incidents seriously, and we will bring you before the courts."
