Woman 'just doing her job' at Farmfoods pushed to ground and attacked
A female shop worker was allegedly pushed to the ground and attacked after confronting a shoplifter. The alleged incident occurred at Farmfoods on Salisbury Street, Birkenhead, on Wednesday January 22.
A man was arrested in connection with the incident, which Merseyside Police said occurred after the employee challenged a male who was attempting to steal food.
Anthony Hylands, 40, of St Paul’s Road, Seacombe, was charged with robbery. He was remanded into custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates' Court today, Tuesday January 27.
Detective Chief Inspector Pete Stephenson said: “It is unacceptable for someone to be assaulted for just doing their job. When incidents such as this happen we will always take action to find the people responsible and bring them to justice. Robbery within retail premises is not a victimless crime and has a huge impact on not only the business but the community as well.”
