A woman has died after being hit by a lorry in the early hours of Saturday morning on the A2.

Kent Police said the incident happened at around 2.45am close to Dartford Heath on the London-bound carriageway.

Officers and ambulance crews attended and a woman was declared dead at the scene.

Police said the collision involved a white DAF lorry, adding that it was reported the pedestrian had been travelling in a grey BMW which stopped on the coastbound carriageway prior to the incident.

The lorry driver stopped following the collision.

Motorists who were travelling in both directions of the A2 are being urged to check for any dashcam footage which may assist the investigation.

An investigation by the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is ongoing, which led to the road being closed.

The coastbound route was reopened at 10.15am.
