Woman knocked off Westminster Bridge in London terror attack is in critical condition

The Romanian woman who was knocked off Westminster Bridge during the terror attack remains in a critical condition almost a week after the incident.

Andreea Cristea, a 29-year-old architect, was walking near the Houses of Parliament when Khalid Masood drove onto the pavement, throwing her some 50ft into the Thames.

The 29-year-old's partner Andrei Burnaz had been planning to propose to her later that day, according to the Romanian ambassador.

Footage widely circulated after the attack, showed Ms Cristea falling from the bridge into the water below.

Mr Burnaz suffered a fractured foot during the attack as the pair walked towards the London Eye.

The couple's families have thanked those who helped save Ms Cristea.

“Our family is so grateful for the first responders, the medical personnel and the assistance of the UK Government agencies," they said. “Andreea is still in a critical but stable condition and benefits from the best medical healthcare possible.”

They said that they were "overwhelmed by the love, support and respect for our Andreea, adding that London's "Metropolitan Police have been and continue to work tirelessly in providing their care and support during this very difficult time.”

Romanian ambassador Dan Mihalache said it was a “miracle” Ms Cristea had survived.

Four people were killed and at least 50 people injured in the attack outside the Houses of Parliament. Attacker, Khalid Masood, was shot dead by police shortly after the attack.

Two men remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
