Woman nicknamed 'Mama Uganda' gave birth to 44 children thanks to rare condition

A record-breaking mum known as Mama Uganda, has astonishingly given birth to 44 children, despite being pregnant only 15 times.

Mariam suffers from a rare condition called hyperovulation, which significantly increases her fertility. Her remarkable family includes five sets of quintuplets, five sets of triplets and five sets of twins.

Globetrotting YouTuber Drew Binsky, who has visited every nation on the planet, made a trip to Uganda to delve into her extraordinary life. He found that she is single-handedly raising her large family.

He commented: "It's crazy when you see her walking with all her kids. There's so many of them."

A translator conveyed to Drew: "She produced many kids. More than 42. She takes care of them children giving them food, health and medical. She's a hero," reports the Mirror.

"It was not planned but it happened just like that and she's proud of it."

Mariam's husband left her to raise their children alone. All the children have the same father.

The translator suggested that her husband abandoned her due to her rare condition, stating: "The main reason why the man abandoned her is because she produced so many children. He has another wife and she produces only one."

In 2019, at the age of 40, Mama Uganda underwent a medical procedure to prevent any more pregnancies.

She had been married off at the tender age of 12 to a 40 year old man who was physically abusive and had several other wives, in exchange for a herd of cows.
