A woman stuck in her swimming pool for three hours was rescued after turning to Facebook for help.

Leslie Kahn, 61, from New Hampshire in the US, became trapped in her pool after the ladder she usually uses to get out broke.

Without anything to step up from and too weak to pull herself from the water, Ms Kahn began to get cold and worried.

Her mobile phone was not in reach but after three hours, she had the idea of using a swimming pool pole to drag her iPad - placed on a chair nearby - towards her.

She then posted a plea for help to the Facebook group “Epping Squawks”.

“I started off with 911 and an exclamation point,” Kahn told local news station WMUR 9.

“I wanted to get people’s attention fast.”

She said she didn't want emergency services help but simply somebody to come by with a screwdriver and help her fix the ladder.

Within seven minutes, a neighbour arrived - followed by the police, and another neighbour.

Ms Kahn swiftly updated the Facebook post to let its nearly 4,000 members know she was now safe.

“You get through whatever life throws at you, and you ask for help. And be prepared to help others, and that’s the way life is supposed to work,” she told WMUR 9.

“That’s the way community is supposed to work. And in my experience, it does.”
