Woman racially abused and assaulted in town centre attack

A woman was racially abused, assaulted and had her phone stolen during a town centre incident.

Cleveland Police is appealing for information about the incident which happened in Hartlepool town centre.

Officers say a group of people are believed to have been involved in an altercation on Thursday night in the Victoria Road area during which the female was attacked.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Police in Hartlepool are appealing for information following an altercation between a group of people at around 7pm on Thursday 6th June. During the incident, on Victoria Road in the town centre, a woman was physically assaulted, racially abused and her phone was taken."

Officers are urging anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to call 101 quoting reference 106096.
