Woman raped in Huddersfield street as manhunt for attacker launched

A woman has been raped in Huddersfield in the early hours of this morning.

West Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into the attack in Great Northern Street which happened between midnight and 12.30am today, Tuesday, June 4.

Officers say "extensive enquiries" are underway and the victim is being supported by specially trained officers. A police scene remains in place as part of the investigation. The rapist is currently at large and police are working hard to locate them.

In a short statement issued this afternoon, a spokesman for the force said: "Police are investigating a serious sexual assault on a woman in Huddersfield in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, 4 June).

"The offence is reported to have taken place between 12am and 12:30am on Great Northern Street, Huddersfield.

"The investigation is in its early stages with extensive enquiries underway to establish the circumstances of what has taken place and to identify the suspect involved. The victim is being supported at this time by specially trained officers."
