A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a serious crash on a busy A-road. The A35 was closed for several hours today (Thursday, September 19) while emergency services attended the scene of a collision involving an SUV.

Dorset Police rushed to the incident at around 1.50pm, following reports of a crash between a red Jeep Compass and a pedestrian. National Highways reported an air ambulance also responded to the crash and a female pedestrian, a woman aged in her 70s from Poole, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The SUV driver was uninjured in the collision, Dorset Police said. The A35 was closed in both directions to allow emergency services to attend the incident and the road was reopened at around 5.15pm.

Police Sergeant Mike Burt, of the traffic unit, said: “I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“If you were travelling in the area and have a dashcam fitted to your vehicle, I would ask you to please check your footage for anything of relevance to help my enquiries.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place. They were in place to allow us to safely treat the injured person and carry out a detailed scene examination.”
