A woman has been fired within half an hour of being offered her ‘perfect’ job - after admitting she had hand tattoos.

Claire Shepherd, 27, was delighted to secure the retail merchandiser position during a phone interview with retail solutions company Dee Set.

After being informed that her interview had been successful and she would be starting with the company next week, Claire received an email regarding dress standards, noting that all tattoos should be covered up so as not to cause offence.

Hoping that the company may have adapted its policy, Claire emailed to fill them in on her ink - only to be immediately let go from the position.

Angry Claire urged friends to share news of her dismissal on Facebook, saying: 'I have 6 years previous experience in managerial roles and my tattoos have never been an issue. That is until I applied for a role with Dee Set.

'I was shocked when they replied and said they would no longer be employing me as I would not be able to cover my tattoos.

'I was perfect for the job due to my skills, previous experience and flexibility. They clearly thought I had something to offer and would be the right person for the job as they had already offered me the position.

'I’m shocked that people still discriminate against visible tattoos. I just didn’t think this happened anymore. I’m totally disgusted.’

The role would have seen Claire - from Swansea - advising stores such as Asda, Boots and Sainsbury’s on which stock to promote when, and in what quantity.

Claire - who also sports neck, chest and arm tattoos - has been surprised by how quickly her post has gone viral, describing it as ‘crazy’.

It has received over 2500 Facebook shares since it was first posted on Wednesday, attracting media interest across Europe.
