A woman suffered serious injuries after a car crashed into traffic lights. Emergency services were called to Menlove Avenue in Woolton at 12.38pm today, Saturday, September 20.

It followed a report a green Peugeot had crashed with traffic lights on Menlove Avenue at the junction with Beaconsfield Road. Officers went to the scene and after an investigation they believe there was a crash involving the Peugeot and a black Ford Zetec, which then resulted in the crash with the traffic lights.

A woman who was a passenger of the Peugeot, aged in her eighties, has been taken to hospital and her condition is described as serious, police said. The drivers of both cars stopped at the scene.

Sgt Matt Bernard from the Roads Policing Unit, said: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. We are also appealing to anyone who has CCTV, or doorbell, footage that captured the incident to come forward, we are particularly interested in talking to any motorists who were in the area who may have dashcam footage of the incident."
