Woman seriously injured as car crashes into Torbay Hospital building
A woman suffered serious injuries after a car crashed into a temporary building and trapped a number of people at Torbay Hospital. The collision took place at around 10.50am this morning, Wednesday, November 27, and a number of people within the building sustained injuries following the impact and had to be freed from the wreckage.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and helped the casualties alongside members of the hospital staff. Local road closures were put in place and there were traffic delays in the area around the Caldwell Lane entrance.
In an update this afternoon, Devon and Cornwall Police has confirmed that a woman was taken to Derriford Hospital with serious injuries. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Meanwhile, the driver of the car involved, a man aged in his 60s, was treated at hospital for his injuries. Several other people sustained minor injuries.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and said that two people were trapped by the vehicle, reporting: "On arrival the driver was already free and clear but two people were trapped under the car. Crews have lifted the vehicle and both casualties are now clear and being assessed by the ambulance service."
Police said: "Officers would like to thank hospital staff for their assistance in managing the scene and members of the public visiting the hospital for their patience."
