A woman in Oklahoma was shot multiple times in the back while attempting to remove a Nazi flag from someone’s front garden.
Kyndal McVey was at a party on Sunday morning in a town about 90 miles from Oklahoma City, when she attempted to take one of the two Nazi flags flying in the front garden of a nearby house.
As the 26-year-old attempted to leave the area, 44-year-old Alexander Feaster, who owns the house, allegedly shot her four times in the back with a semi-automatic rifle.
Deputy Marshall Woodson wrote in the affidavit that “it is important to note that Kyndal did not appear to be in any way, a threat to Feaster due to her obviously running away from his residence with only a flag in her hand”.
Ms McVey was found lying in a ditch by responding police officers, with four gunshot wounds, according to Garfield County sheriff Jody Helm.
She is expected to recover from her injuries, and the authorities confirmed it is up to the district attorney to decide whether she will face charges for taking the flag.
Mr Feaster is being held in the Garfield County Jail on charges of assault and battery with a deadly weapon and shooting with intent to kill, according to the authorities.
Mr Helm said that there was “confusing information” around the incident, after he initially suggested that the flag was stolen as a dare.
Young people in the area had previously attempted to take down the flags, according to NBC News, and Mr Woodson claimed that the 44-year-old was expecting it to happen again.
“There was a large ashtray containing several cigarette buts, and a handcuff pouch containing handcuffs on a box next to the chair,” Mr Woodson wrote in the affidavit.
“It appeared that Mr Feaster was anticipating an incident to take place and had been watching from that spot.”
Mr Feaster is being held on a $500,000 (£400,800) bail and is due to appear in court on 9 July.
