Woman stabbed 'in front of child' outside Co-op store in Oxford

A young woman was stabbed outside a Co-op shop in Oxford in front of a child she was with, it has emerged.

Police were called to the Co-op in Headington, Oxford, just before 3pm on Tuesday to reports that a woman had been stabbed by a man.

The woman was with a child at the time, the Oxford Mail reported.

The man, described as black, of large build, with short dark hair and wearing a green bomber-style jacket with a tracksuit, then ran away from the scene, Thames Valley Police said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious injuries.

Eye witnesses reported seeing “puddles of blood” in the car park of the store.

Passer-by James Dyer said: “The scene looked absolutely horrific. There is just puddles of blood and like eight or nine police cars.”

One nearby shop worker, who did not wish to be named, said he saw a young girl lying on the floor surrounded by blood.

Detective Inspector Jim Holmes, from Thames Valley Police, said: “Enquiries are ongoing in the area to locate the offender. Although we are in the early stages of our investigation, it is believed that the victim is known to the offender.

“People in the community may notice an increased police presence while this is ongoing.

“This incident took place in an area which was busy at the time and I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area who saw what happened and to anyone who has any dash-cam footage to contact police.”
