Woman suffers head injury in assault as police shut road with cordon in place

Police closed a road in the Kingsway area of St George on Saturday morning (October 26) to carry out enquiries as part of an investigation following an assault on a woman.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they had been called to a residential property in the area following the assault shortly after 1am, with officers remaining at the scene to carry out enquiries. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment, with a head injury that is not considered life-threatening, the statement went on to say.

Photos from the scene, taken by a BristolLive photographer, showed multiple police officers investigating a blue van with a smashed window. A forensics vehicle and two police cars were pictured, with a full road closure and police cordon in place.

The full statement from Avon and Somerset Police, given to BristolLive at 10.50am, said: "We were called to a residential property near Kingswood overnight following an assault on a woman. The ambulance service made us aware of the incident, that happened at an address in Kingsway, shortly after 1am this morning (Saturday 26 October).

"The woman was taken to hospital for treatment, with a head injury that is not considered life-threatening. Officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident involving parties known to one another, at this early stage of our investigation. Anyone with information that could help our enquiries, such as CCTV or dashcam from overnight, is asked to contact us on 101 and quote reference number 5224282229."
