This Chef Swears That His Simple Tip Will Give You Perfect Roast Potatoes Every Time

From Delish

Everyone’s mum, nan or dad has their very own secret way of getting perfect roast potatoes that’s been handed down through generations.

And the tradition of hacks for getting crispy roast potatoes continues with this chef, who claims one simple thing will give you perfect roast potatoes every time.

Tom Westerland, the head chef at The Grill - Crocker’s Henley, has shared his technique, and it's called 'The Seven-Minute Shuffle'.

We're into it already...

He told The Daily Star, “The first important factor is choosing the potato – you need a dirty potato like a Maris Piper or a King Edward. Dirty potatoes have a lower sugar content in so they crisp up better without burning.”

“We peel them and cut them into what I call ‘roast potato shape’ – this is basically as many edges as possible. It's the trick to maximising your crispy edges!”

“We then cover them with cold water and a good handful of salt. Bring them to the boil and then rapidly boil them for seven minutes. Drain them off, ruffle them in the colander with some rock salt.

"This is the seven-minute shuffle.”

It's all about that shuffle, guys.

And that's not the only roast potato hack doing the rounds: roast potato genius Vicki from Australia shared her tip on the Mums Who Clean Facebook group, according to the Daily Star. Unfortunately, the group is private so we can’t share the post with you here, but we’ll give you all the information you need to go forth and roast the crispiest potatoes of your life.

So the secret to Vicki’s potatoes is… French onion soup mix. Yup – dried soup mix.

Vicki wrote on Facebook, “When doing roast spuds, peel, cut and place in baking dish.

“Get French onion dry soup mix and sprinkle over top of spuds. Then, sprinkle your oil over that and bake.

“It’s the only way I do roast spuds now.”

The mum called her tip her “best food hack” and added: “It’s the bomb – my mum taught me!”

Thank you, Vicki’s mum.

If you fancy giving these a go yourself, try Knorr's French onion soup mix, which you can buy in most supermarkets.

Plus, another great way of getting super-tasty roast potatoes is to add Marmite. You’ll either love it or hate it. But mostly, you’ll love it.
