Woman visits Cancun to 'top up tan' – but gets nasty surprise
A tourist expected to bask in sunshine when she jetted off to Cancun, Mexico, for some winter sun. But unfortunately, she got an unexpected surprise.
Lorena Cruz shared a humorous video on TikTok, showcasing the downpour drenching the renowned resort hotspot of Benito Juarez. Despite Cancun's typical tropical climate promising mostly warm and sunny conditions, it appears that Lorena's January holiday fell outside the dry expectations.
The region's rainy season spans from May to October – and Lorena learned this the hard way! Kicking off her video, the tourist joked: "POV: You’re going to Cancun to get a tan in the middle of January."

She then pivots the camera to reveal a storm flooding the hotel grounds, comically overlaying a soundbite of someone wailing "my savings, my savings, my money!"
The eight-second post drew considerable attention, racking up 276,000 views and over 4,205 likes, sparking more than 100 comments and shared by users upwards of 1,000 times. And it seems many could relate to the short clip.
One local remarked: "Typical of Cancun and its unstable climates hahahah, tomorrow you’ll see it will be sunny (I live here)." Another weighed in with local insight saying: "I live here and since June I feel like it rains every week haha but last year it hardly rained at all."
A third sympathised: "I thought it only happened to those who thoughtlessly went in October. I don’t feel so bad any more."
One user, who also visited the Mexican city in October, claimed they were caught in a hurricane. Another user humorously commented: "The worst date. You weren’t planning on getting a tan hahahaha."
To which Lorena responded: "Hehehe actually it only rained that day in the afternoon, the other days the weather was good."
