Police are appealing for witnesses after the body of a woman was found on the M25 in Surrey.
The woman is thought to have been walking on the road and she died after being hit by a vehicle.
Her body was found on the carriageway between junction 8 near Reigate and junction 10 near Wisley, shortly after 6.15 this morning.
The 36-year-old's family have been told but her identity is not being released.
Sergeant Andy Audsley from Surrey Police said: "We are trying to establish how the woman, who was a pedestrian, came to be injured in the carriageway. We believe that she may have been involved at some stage in a collision with a vehicle that did not stop at the scene.
"We are asking anyone who saw the woman, who was wearing a maroon coat and trousers, to call us immediately."
The road was closed and drivers are being asked to follow diversion signs.
