This Woman Helped a Stranger With His Tie; Kindness, Pass It On

A heartwarming picture of a woman helping a stranger with his necktie while on public transit in San Francisco has gone viral after surfacing on Reddit.

“Kid was desperately trying and failing to do it himself. A fellow passenger asked if he needed help,” read the caption.

It’s a simple act of kindness, but it may have changed the course of this young man’s day — at least, that’s what Reddit users seem to think.

“You know he had somewhere important to go if he thought he needed to wear a tie even though he couldn’t tie it. Very nice gesture here,” one person commented.

Many speculated that the man was on his way to a job interview, while others simply chose to marvel at the woman’s “incredibly toned arms” (and the fact that she could tie a necktie like a pro, without having it around her neck).

“The biceps, the sunglasses, the card in the mouth … so suave,” wrote LudwigMiesVanderrohe.

“Where are all these people who can tie a tie facing someone. I always try to do it mirrored and f*** it up,” wrote ArmanDoesStuff.

The picture is similar to one that surfaced in 2015 of Alfred and Adelina Alberghini, who helped a young man tie his tie.

Redd Desmond Thomas took the picture of the couple and the young man, and wrote on Facebook: “The young guy sitting down was struggling with his tie. The woman in the red coat noticed, and asked: ‘Do you know how to tie it properly?’ The young guy said, ‘No ma’am.’

“She taps her husband and says ‘come to this side and teach this young man how to tie his tie.’

“The older gentleman moved without hesitation [almost a reflex response] and gave him a step-by-step tutorial. Then, afterward, the elder gentleman watched the young gentleman repeat the steps and show him that he had it.

“I was some distance away (but close enough to hear the exchange) and got even closer to snap this candid photo of the tutorial in progress before hopping on the train. I LOVE THIS!”

We salute you, kind people who help young men you don’t know to tie their ties.
