A group set up in the wake of attacks against women in Stroud will be extending their services to another part of Gloucestershire in the coming weeks.

Safe Space, led by founder Chrissie Lowery, was set up in 2022 after sexual assaults and attacks took place in the community leading to calls for greater protection of women in the town.

Shops and businesses in Stroud now display a Safe Space sticker in their windows and recently Chrissie has turned her own shop Craftology on Union Street into a charity shop.

Called the Night Angel charity shop, it is dedicated to the very Night Angels who have patrolled the town centre at night. Their roles include helping women get home at night on Fridays and Saturdays, whilst also giving help to those who need it.

Selling retro and vintage clothing as well as other handmade items, Chrissie said "we feel very proud to have opened the shop and also honour our Team Angel Sharon who sadly passed away four months ago."

The Safe Space scheme will be extending into Gloucester soon as Chrissie explains it will be "a pilot scheme. If anyone would like to join either team in Gloucester or Stroud, please contact us. We have attended over 160 incidents, taking the strain off of the emergency services and helping to keep the women of Stroud safe during the night."

If you would like to volunteer as a Night Angel, the Safe Space scheme website can be found here.
