Wonder Woman 2 gets release date

Despite studios seemingly not believing in female led superhero films, Wonder Woman has become one of the Summer’s biggest hits, outgrossing tried and tested franchises such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Transformers, and Despicable Me.

Looking to capitalise on the blockbuster’s success, Warner Bros. were quick to announce a sequel without actually offering a release date.

Following the Wonder Woman-led Justice League trailer that debuted at Comic-Con, the studio has announced the sequel will reach cinemas 13 December 2019.

Patty Jenkins, who directed the first, has not been confirmed as the director. However, Geoff Johns — who currently leads the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) — has confirmed himself and Jenkins are working on a script.

Warner Bros. Pictures president Toby Emmerich revealed earlier this year the sequel will not take place in World War I, but likely will be set in the past. Jenkins added how the film will likely be set in the United States.

Other DCEU films to have release dates are Justice League (17 November), Aquaman (21 December 2018), Shazam (5 April 2019), Cyborg (3 April, 2020), and Green Lantern Corps (24 July, 2020). Matt Reeves’s The Batman also has a speculative 2018 date, although there’s no certainty regarding when to expect the “neo-noir" adaptation.
