Patty Jenkins has finally explained why there wasn't a post-credits scene on Wonder Woman.

Before the DC hit was released in June, producer Charles Roven confirmed that the movie wouldn't be following the usual comic book trend of having a post-credits scene, but Jenkins hadn't expanded on her decision.

Now, in an interview with the Toronto Sun, the director has revealed that she's "not always a believer in post-credits scenes", which is partly why there wasn't one on Wonder Woman.

"I think if you know the next movie is going to be set in the same world or have the exact same tone, then I think it makes sense. To me, it does not make sense to have a commercial for a completely different style of movie in the credits of another movie," Jenkins outlined.

"One of my favourite things about the DC Universe is they were super supportive of me doing my own tone, but there's no other movie that they have that's of the same tone. So it just felt weird to do some other crossover. Also, the end of the movie was the end. It wasn't, 'Tune in later for more'."

The one movie that Wonder Woman could have set up in its post-credits scene – like with this deleted epilogue scene – is Justice League.

Jenkins's comments now have us concerned that unlike Wonder Woman's optimistic and bright tone, Justice League might just have the same dour tone as previous DC outings…

We'll find out when Justice League hits cinemas on November 17.
