Wonder Woman's UK release date has been moved forward.

Patty Jenkins's solo outing for Gal Gadot's superhero will now be released on Thursday, June 1 in the UK, one day ahead of its US release on June 2.

While it's not a major change, it follows the Marvel pattern of having UK audiences enjoy their latest offering before the US, with each Marvel movie currently coming out one week earlier in the UK – and most of Europe – before the US.

The cynical among you might say it just speeds up the inevitable disappointment with Wonder Woman, but we remain hopeful about the first female-led superhero outing since Marvel kicked off the superhero blockbuster age with Iron Man.

Earlier this month, Wonder Woman director of photography Matt Jensen revealed that he and Jenkins settled on a rather surprising inspiration for the look of the DC Comics movie.

"A big influence on both of us was the painter John Singer Sargent, who did a lot of portrait work at the turn of the century," Jensen explained.

"His lighting style influenced the way that I lit the movie. I think Patty really responded to the beautiful soft light that he used in his paintings on his subjects."

Following Wonder Woman's solo DC outing, she will next be seen teaming up with Batman and co in Justice League, which was recently hit by a row over Aquaman's trident.

Despite the design being around since Batman v Superman, the fact that Aquaman's trident has five prongs – so not a trident – has been the subject of much discussion on Twitter.

Wonder Woman opens on June 1 in the UK and June 2 in the US, followed by Justice League on November 17.
