For years, any time I went shopping I made sure to check the care tags to ensure that any clothing I bought could easily be cared for at home. Not only is bringing things to be professionally dry cleaned inconvenient, it can also get expensive.

If you're also someone who steers clear of delicate fabrics for that exact reason, you'll want to take notes — because I've found the perfect at-home alternative to dry cleaning.

The Woolite At Home Dry Cleaner brings the dry cleaner to you with its convenient dryer sheets that help to remove wrinkles and odours in just 20 minutes. I've been using them for the past six months, so if you're curious to see whether they're worth it, keep reading for my full review.

$9 at Amazon

What are they?

This fast and easy at-home cleaner comes in a convenient sheet that you toss into the dryer along with up to five articles of clothing that could use a refresh — no washing necessary. It allows dirt and lint to collect in the dryer filter and not on your clothes, leaving them refreshed, de-wrinkled and ready to wear in minutes.

Each box comes with six dryer sheets, which at just $9 a box can easily save you more than $100 in dry cleaning fees for up to 30 items.

Do they really work?

While I was skeptical at first, I can definitely say that these dryer sheets work really well for quick, at-home dry clean. Woolite guarantees "no shrinking, no stretching, no fading" when you use these dryer sheets, and I found that to be true on all of the garments I've cleaned so far. I've used them on silk shirts, cashmere and wool sweaters, and even delicate dresses without any issues.

I will say that while these sheets work well to remove wrinkles and odours, I'm not sure that I would trust them to remove heavy stains from delicate clothes. In cases like that, you'd likely be better off doing a thorough spot clean, and finishing off with one of the dryer sheets if needed.

What others are saying

These dry cleaning sheets have earned a 4.4-star rating from more than 400 Amazon customer reviews. Shoppers have raved that this cleaner "works on everything" from wool suits to cashmere scarves and everything in between.

"One of the best products I have ever used," raved one reviewer who wrote that their sweaters "emerged from the dryer fluffy and refreshed."

Another reviewer shared that they used these dryer sheets on "silk shirts, cashmere sweaters and coats" and saved "a fortune on dry cleaning bills."

"Every laundry room needs this!" raved one reviewer.

Like me, other Amazon reviewers have stated that these sheets work well on clothes that need a simple refresh rather than a deep clean from ground-in stains.

One shopper shared that these sheets are "good for getting rid of small spots," but for large stains, "you will need to call in the professionals," another reviewer wrote.

The verdict

For regular wear and tear on delicate clothing, these at-home dry cleaning sheets work well at removing smells, wrinkles, and small spots. Shoppers recommend that you leave the heavy-duty cleaning for the cleaners, but for a quick refresh these affordable sheets can't be beat.

Considering that I'm using these sheets on clothing that is only lightly dirtied, I'll be sticking with these over a pricey visit to the dry cleaner any time soon.
