Workers Rescued From Floodwaters as Heavy Rains Continue in Israel

Several workers trapped by floodwaters in the central Israeli town of Gan Yavne were rescued on Thursday, January 9, Israel Fire and Rescue Services said on Twitter, as heavy rain and flash flooding continued to deluge the country.

Local media reported that at least seven people had died during an unusually heavy rainy season, among them a 38-year-old man who drowned on Wednesday after he was swept away while helping a family escape their vehicle, and two people who drowned in a flooded elevator in Tel Aviv on Saturday.

Israel’s Meteorological Service continued to warn of a high risk of flooding, with more rainfall expected through January 10.
