The World’s First Chelsea-Bun-Fuelled Rocket-Boat Exists, For Some Reason

A rocket-powered punt is making its maiden voyage on the River Cam today, fuelled by Chelsea buns.

Proving that people will do anything these days, the Cambridge Science Centre is launching the bun-powered boat to highlight its latest exhibition called COSMIC, an exploration into all things space-related.

Chelsea buns from Fitzbillies Bakery will be frozen using Nitric Oxide then loaded into the middle of the punt’s engine.

The sugar, fat and oxygen in the tasty treats will then burn to make fuel and send the punt zipping down the river.

Ten of the buns might keep you going for a whole day but in the rocket-punt they will only provide about 40 seconds of power. Seems like a bit of a waste, really.
